DURAN is a brand name for a borosilicate glass from the German company DWK Life Sciences and represents the internationally established type of borosilicate glass 3.3 (DIN ISO 3585). Because of its very high resistance to heat and temperature changes, as well as high mechanical strength and low coefficient of linear expansion, DURAN, like Pyrex from Corning , is not only used for laboratory equipment (e.g. components of chemical apparatus, beakers , Erlenmeyer flasks , etc.) and household goods, but also used in cathode ray tubes , transmitter tubes or telescope mirrors.

Otto Schott developed borosilicate glass 3.3 in 1887. In 1938 the DURAN brand was registered with the Reich Patent Office and registered in 1943.
