Company history
The company was founded in March 1999 in Silicon Valley by Javier Pérez-Tenessa de Block and James Hare with the support of European and American financial investors such as DCM-Doll Capital Management, Apax Partners and Atlas Venture. In 2000 it started as one of the first online travel agencies on the Spanish and Italian markets. In October 2006, eDreams was sold to the American private equity company TA Associates for 153 million euros. Since July 2010 the European venture capital company Permira has held the majority stake in eDreams. eDreams is one of the four brands of the eDreams Odigeo Group alongside Opodo , GO Voyages and Travellink .

The company offers on its website in Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Great Britain, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Chile, India, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Switzerland, Turkey, the USA, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, South Africa, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Egypt, Morocco, Thailand, Greece and the Netherlands as well as the world market in English tourism products and services. This includes individual hotel and flight offers, based on the modular principle , as well as package tours .

criticism
eDreams has attracted attention several times through unfair flight booking methods. This includes attracting customers with airfares that do not match the final price, which is against applicable EU law. In addition, payments for tickets that have not been issued will not be refunded or with a significant delay. In November 2016, eDreams simply canceled a large number of paid flight tickets that had already been issued by the airlines due to an alleged IT problem.
