East Cambridgeshire is a district in the county of Cambridgeshire in England . The administrative seat is Ely ; other significant places are Bottisham , Burwell , Fordham , Haddenham , Isleham , Littleport , Soham , Stretham , Sutton-in-the-Isle , Wilburton and Witchford .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Urban District Ely and the Rural Districts Ely and Newmarket.
