East Devon is a district in the county of Devon in England . The administrative seat is the city of Sidmouth ; other important places are Budleigh Salterton , Exmouth , Honiton , Ottery St Mary and Seaton .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of Borough Honiton, the Urban Districts Budleigh, Exmouth Urban District, Ottery St Mary, Seaton and Sidmouth, the Rural Districts Axminster and Honiton and part of the Rural District St Thomas.
