Eberhard Horst

Eberhard Horst (born February 1, 1924 in Düsseldorf ; † February 15, 2012 in Groebenzell ) was a German writer .

Life

The son of a merchant graduated from high school in 1947 in a French prisoner-of-war camp. From 1948 to 1955 he studied philosophy, theology, German and theater studies in Bonn and Munich. In 1956, with a study of Elisabeth Langgässer's epic work, he was awarded Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a freelance writer and literary critic . In 1969 he was one of the founders of the Association of German Writers (VS), of which he headed the Bavarian State Association from 1970 to 1972. From 1971 to 1973 he was also a member of the BR Broadcasting Council.

At the beginning of his artistic career, Horst, who had been a member of the PEN since 1968 , primarily devoted himself to travel literature . In 1975 he achieved his artistic breakthrough with Friedrich the Staufer . The biography of Friedrich II. Von Hohenstaufen , aimed at a broad, historically interested readership , became a bestseller . In the following years he wrote other popular science biographies of historical figures such as Julius Caesar , Hildegard von Bingen , Constantine the Great, and Petrus Abelardus and Heloisa . He also wrote radio programs and television plays.

Horst died on February 15, 2012 at the age of 88 after a long illness in Groebenzell near Munich.
