The Ecdeiocoleaceae are a family of plants belonging to the sweet grass-like (Poales). There are only two monotypical genera in this family , i.e. only two species. The two species of the Ecdeiocoleaceae are endemic and are only found in southwestern Australia .
description
The two species of Ecdeiocoleaceae are perennial herbaceous plants , with rhizomes . The alternately arranged leaves are (reduced to scales), simple, sessile, parallel-veined and entire.

Solitary capsule fruits or achenes are formed.

There are only (one or) two genera with only three species in the Ecdeiocoleaceae family:
-
Ecdeiocolea
F. Muell. : With only two types:
- Ecdeiocolea monostachya F. Muell. : Grows on acidic soils in southwestern Australia and reaches heights of 0.4 to 1 m and a plant diameter of 1 m. The male flowers contain four stamens.
- Ecdeiocolea rigens B.G. Briggs : It wasfirst describedin 2011 from west-southwestern Western Australia .
-
Georgeantha B.G. Briggs & LASJohnson : With only one species:
- Georgeantha hexandra B.G. Briggs & LASJohnson : Grows in western-southwest Australia in seasonal wetlands on sand and reaches heights of 0.5 to 0.8 m.
These two species used to be in the Restionaceae family . The closest relatives are the Joinvilleaceae and Poaceae .
