Edwin Bernard Eddie / Ed Kahn (born November 9, 1911 in New York City , New York , USA , † February 17, 1945 in Leyte , Philippines ), nickname : King Kong was an American football player . He played in the National Football League (NFL), including with the Washington Redskins as a guard .

Player career

Ed Kahn studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and played there from 1932 to 1934 for the Tar Heels Football on the position of a guard. In 1934 he was able to reach the vice championship of the Southern Conference with his team . Kahn was recognized in all three game years for his sporting achievements. After graduating from college in 1935, he joined the Boston Redskins, which two years later moved to Washington, DC and renamed Washington Redskins. In 1936, Ray Flaherty took over the position of head coach for the previously unsuccessful team. In the 1936 season, the Redskins could win seven of twelve games. Before the game round in 1937, the team succeeded in signing quarterback Sammy Baugh and Kahn had the task of protecting him from then on and blocking the way into the opposing end zone for his own running back Cliff Battles . The Redskins won eight games in 1937 and lost three times. This enabled them to qualify for the NFL championship game, where they met the Chicago Bears . The Redskins won the game 28:21. Ed Kahn ended his career after the game.

After the playing career

Eddie Kahn served as a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II . He suffered life-threatening injuries in the battle of the Leyte Gulf , from which he died.
