Edgar Barens
Edgar Barens (born 1961 or 1962 in Illinois ) is an American documentary film - producer , published in 2013 for his short film Prison terminal over a dying prisoner for Oscar in the category Best Short Documentary was nominated.
Life
Edgar Barens earned a Masters of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University Film School and has been an active film producer since 1988 . He is the project manager of the Open Society Foundations for the Center on Crime, Communities & Culture , which deals with the judicial system in the United States and funds educational films .
He started filming for Prison Terminal back in 2006 and redeemed his pension fund for the necessary equipment . Despite grants from the Illinois Arts Council , the Open Society Foundations , the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois , the International Documentary Association and the Blue Mountain Center, there were repeated financial bottlenecks during production . Until the completion of the film in 2013, Barens worked in various jobs, including as a car salesman and as a medical employee taking blood .
