Edith Evans
Dame Edith Evans , DBE (born February 8, 1888 in London , † October 14, 1976 in Cranbrook , Kent ), was a British theater and film actress .
Life
Edith Evans has appeared on the UK theater stage since the early 1900s and has played all of the major roles the theater has to offer throughout her career. She was not very enthusiastic about the film. Although she played in silent films in 1915 and 1916 . However , she did not take on her first role in talkies until the age of 61 in 1949. In 1959, she played the role of Superior General Mother Emmanuel in the story of a nun alongside Audrey Hepburn and Dame Peggy Ashcroft . For her role in Whispering Walls (1967) she received the Silver Bear at the 1967 Berlinale , a Golden Globe in 1968 and an Oscar nomination. For her services to the arts she was raised to the nobility in 1946 and was henceforth allowed to call herself Dame Edith Evans .
