Edla (Slavic)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edla (* around 980 ?; † around 1010 ?) Was a wife of King Olaf Skötkonung of Sweden .

There is hardly any information about her person. She came from "Wendland", the Slavic area on the Baltic Sea, and she was the mother of Emund , Astrid and Holmfrid. Your status is not entirely clear. She was the wife of King Olaf, but probably not married to him. She may have died relatively early.

Remarks

  1. Olaf was married to Estrid . Maybe Edla was the first woman and soon died. In the brief information received, however, she was not referred to as queen. Maybe she was a concubine. Her son Emund became king after his half-brother Amund.
  2. In the Olaf saga it was reported that her children were treated badly by the stepmother. She could already have died by this point.
