Edward John "Eddie" DeBartolo Jr. (born November 6, 1946 in Youngstown , Ohio ) is an American entrepreneur and former owner of the San Francisco 49ers .

Entrepreneurial activity

DeBartolo took over from his father, Edward DeBartolo Sr. , founded DeBartolo Realty Corp . In 1996 he merged this with Simon Property to form the Simon DeBartolo Group . He owns 5 percent of this company, making him the largest individual partner after the Simon family. He runs a real estate company out of Tampa , Florida . His assets to 4 billion US dollars estimated, which he was the 495th richest person.

San Francisco 49ers

DeBartolo acquired the San Francisco 49ers in 1977 . He hired Bill Walsh as head coach , with whom he began to set up a new team. DeBartolo became known for not shying away from spending money so that the 49ers could get the best possible players. They signed Joe Montana , Ronnie Lott , Jerry Rice , Charles Haley and Steve Young , among others , who helped make the 49ers one of the strongest teams in the National Football League (NFL) in the 1980s and 1990s , and five times in fourteen years Won the Super Bowl .
