Edward Flynn

Edward "Eddie" L. Flynn (born October 25, 1909 in New Orleans , † February 7, 1976 in Tampa ) was an American boxer .

Flynn won the national championships in 1931 and 1932. In 1932 he won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . On the way to this success he defeated Luis Sardella, Argentina , Robert Barton, South Africa , Dave McCleave, United Kingdom , and Erich Campe , German Empire .

With a fight record of 144 wins without defeat, Flynn switched to the pros in 1932. By 1935 he won 28 of 38 fights (14 KOs) with 7 losses and 2 draws. Even before he officially switched to professional life, Flynn boxed under a pseudonym as a professional in Florida .

In 1935 Flynn was drafted and then fought in World War II . In 2010 he was inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame. Flynn worked as a dentist in Tampa until his death .
