Edward James Burns (born October 7, 1957 in Pittsburgh ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Dallas .

Life

He was ordained a priest on June 25, 1983 by the Bishop of Pittsburgh , Vincent Martin Leonard .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Juneau on January 19, 2009 . The Bishop of Pittsburgh, David Zubik , ordained him episcopal on March 3 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Roger Lawrence Schwietz OMI , Archbishop of Anchorage , and Donald William Wuerl , Archbishop of Washington . The inauguration in the Diocese of Juneau followed on April 2 of the same year. As a motto , he chose Pray with Confidence .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Dallas on December 13, 2016. The inauguration took place on February 9th of the same year.
