Edward Strutt

Edward Lisle Strutt CBE , DSO ( February 8, 1874 , † July 7, 1948 ) was a British officer, mountaineer and high commissioner in the Free City of Danzig (1920).

As a soldier, Strutt fought in the Second Boer War and the First World War . After the World War he was appointed security officer of the last Austrian Emperor Karl I by King George V of England and accompanied him and his family into exile in Switzerland.

On November 15, 1920 Strutt was appointed High Commissioner of the League of Nations in the Free City of Danzig. He remained in office until Bernardo Attolico took over the position on December 10, 1920 .

In 1922 he led a British Mount Everest expedition as deputy expedition leader under the direction of Charles G. Bruce . Strutt was 1935–1938 president of the British mountaineering association " Alpine Club ".
