Edwige Fenech (actually Edwige Sfenek ; born December 24, 1948 in Bône , French Algeria ) is an Italian actress and film producer .

Life

The daughter of a Maltese father and a Sicilian mother was one of the most popular actresses in Italian film from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Fenech's career led to revealing roles early on, for the first time in 1968 under the direction of Franz Antel in the Austrian sex comedy Frau Wirtin has also a Count and in the following years in numerous other productions of different genres. Her appearances in thrillers , horror films and erotic comedies with titles such as Frau Wirtin has a niece (directed by Antel, 1969), The naked Bovary , All kittens like to nibble (both 1969), 5 bambole per la luna d'agosto (directed by Mario Bava , 1970), The Secret of the Bloody Lily (directed by Giuliano Carnimeo , 1972) or Nude per l'assassino (directed by Andrea Bianchi, 1975) Fenech attracted a great deal of attention from European audiences.

In the lavish war film The Great Offensive on a Battle of the African Campaign , Edwige Fenech appeared in 1978, directed by Umberto Lenzi , alongside great stars such as Helmut Berger , Henry Fonda and John Huston . The low success of the film, however, did not allow her an international breakthrough.

Edwige Fenech has only rarely appeared as an actress since the mid-1980s. She has been successful since the mid-1990s as a producer, primarily for Italian television. In 2004 she co-produced a film adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino .

In the 1970s, Fenech, who replaced her French nationality with Italian, was the partner of film producer Luciano Martino , brother of director Sergio Martino . Therefore Fenech appeared in many productions Martinos and under the direction of his brother on, about 1971 in the in Vienna turned Giallo The killer of Vienna ( Lo strano vizio della signora Wardh ) or Il tuo vizio è una stanza chiusa e solo io ne ho la chiave from 1972. In the mid-1990s she was engaged to the Italian industrialist Luca di Montezemolo , who later became president of the Fiat Group.
