Ruoppa, who started for Miehikkälän Vilkas, had her first success in international races at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . There she won the bronze medal with the relay. In addition, she achieved 11th place over 10 km. That year she took second place at the Svenska Skidspelen in Falun and the following year she won first place in the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , she won the bronze medal with the relay like two years earlier. In the individual races, she was ninth over 10 km and eighth over 5 km. In March 1962 she won second place over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games behind Mirja Lehtonen . The following year she finished third over 10 km at the Lahti Ski Games. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , she came ninth over 10 km and eighth over 5 km. In the same year she ran at the Svenska Skidspelen in Kiruna together with the relay on the second place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in February 1966 , she finished 11th over 10 km, ninth place over 5 km and fifth place with the relay. The following month she came in second at the Lahti Ski Games behind Senja Pusula over 10 km. At Finnish championships she came third three times and second five times.
