history

The founding of the Franconian hamlet Egendorf, then Eichendorf, is dated to the time after the smashing of the Kingdom of Thuringia in 531.

In 1424 the place belonged to Blankenhain and in 1489 already had seven landowners. In 1468 the Niclas Chapel on the lake near the village was mentioned. In 1554 there was still a sheep farm. In 1663 the place was called Eichendorf again.

In the 20th century, the Thuringian education center Egendorf was established. A children's facility moved into it as a children's sanatorium. The former Thuringian state estate Egendorf was used during the National Socialist era as a state school for leadership and politics as well as a reserve and prisoner of war hospital. Today, the "dorm Egendorf" is the Lebenshilfe Weimar / Apolda housed.
