God of honor Daniel Colberg (born January 26, 1659 in Kolberg , † October 30, 1698 in Wismar ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

He was the son of Johannes Colberg and Catharina Schlieff . After initial private lessons, he first attended the city school in Kolberg and in 1675 for two years at the Carolinum grammar school in Stettin.

In 1677 he moved to Greifswald with his father to study theology and philosophy. He heard u. a. with Joachim Rosenow and Jakob Henning . In 1679 he disputed with Matthäus Clemasius .

After his father was released, Colberg went to Rostock with him in 1679 . He went on a six-month study trip to Danzig and Konigsberg . When he returned to Rostock, he obtained his master's degree there on October 11, 1681 and held his first private college.

Accompanied by his father, Colberg undertook a trip to Stockholm in the autumn of 1682 , where he stayed for a year and continued his studies in the Royal Library. Here he also got to know Samuel Pufendorf .

On October 11, 1684, Colberg was appointed extraordinary professor of philosophy in Greifswald by the king . After some time he went on another educational trip through Upper Germany, which he had to break off because of the death of his father. Two years later his mother also died.

In 1686 Colberg received an extraordinary professorship in morality and history in Greifswald, which was converted into a full professor in 1691. In 1692 he married Elisabeth Margareta Gerdes. Two years later he went to Wismar , became pastor at St. Nikolai and assessor of the consistory there .

Colberg represented the side of Lutheran orthodoxy and was one of the forerunners of the Enlightenment in Pomerania. In the esoteric research his name is still known. His son Johann Friedrich Colberg (1693–1761) was also a Protestant theologian and pastor and superintendent in Stralsund .
