The German preliminary decision for the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest, entitled A Song for Harrogate, took place on March 20, 1982 in TV studio 4 of Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich . The show was moderated by Carolin Reiber and Rudolf Rohlinger . Directed by Rainer Bertram .
Preselection
From a total of 807 titles, a 13-member jury from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Musikwettbewerbe selected 24 titles, which were presented in a two-part radio broadcast and rated by 500 radio listeners selected as a representative by Infratest . Twelve titles made it to the preliminary round.
Participants and placements
After two second places in previous years, composer Ralph Siegel contributed three songs to the 1982 competition, which were interpreted by Marianne Rosenberg , Paola and Nicole . Like Mary Roos, Rosenberg took part in a preliminary round for the fourth time. Because of an illness, Ireen Sheer , who was originally intended to sing the song As You Are , was replaced by Gaby Baginsky .
Two days before the event, Séverine , winner of the 1971 finals , and Denise, based on the results of the preliminary rounds, were the favorites. Before that, Nicole almost failed in the first round and had just reached the radio semi-finals in 24th. The then 17-year-old singer finally won the preliminary decision with the song A Bit Peace, composed by Bernd Opinioner . She reached a total of 5116 points and was almost 800 points ahead of second-placed Paola, who got 4318 points with the title Peter Pan . Third was Hannes Schöner with 3914 points.
The winning title reached first place a month later at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1982 and was also commercially successful. It was not until 2010 that another German contribution, Satellite by singer Lena , was able to win the competition.
