Einar Østby (born September 17, 1935 in Vinger ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Østby, who started for the Jaren IL, won his first medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley with the silver medal with the relay. In races over 15 km, he achieved fourth place there. Two years later he won the bronze medal over 15 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane . He was also there fifth over 30 km and fourth with the relay. In the following year he achieved second place with the relay at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival over 50 km and at the Svenska Skidspelen . At the beginning of March 1963 he came fourth over 50 km at the Lahti Ski Games . At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , he took 15th place over 15 km, eighth place over 30 km and seventh place over 50 km. With the season he came in fourth place. In 1966 he won the Svenska Skidspelen with the relay. At Norwegian championships he came second four times and third once.
