An overhead monorail is an underground overhead suspension system in mining . The corresponding DIN standard is DIN 20592.

drive

The vehicles are driven over longer distances either with their own diesel or electric motor or with an external reel and revolving rope. For short distances of material handling sites are pneumatic cats used.

Areas of application

Mining

Overhead monorails serve as a means of transport for material and people. The benefits are the insensitivity sole raising because on the sole of a stretch no Planum has to be made, but the rails of the ridges be suspended and the high flexibility, which allows to extend the rail with only two people in a short time or shorten.

Non-mining

In the tunnels with a diameter of three meters, which BEWAG set up for the 380 kV cables to connect the West Berlin power grid with that of the GDR after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a specially developed battery-operated overhead monorail runs in its narrow cabins for three people have space one behind the other, and which can also pull a trailer for tools, material or a stretcher. The vehicles can also be used remotely as fire engines and are equipped with infrared and video cameras. The cabin is positioned using special contacts to charge the batteries. In addition to the remote-controlled cabins, there are also simpler rescue vehicles.
