The Einsteinpark is a green area in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg in the Pankow district , which is named after the physicist Albert Einstein .

Origin and description

Playground in the park

The area is the recreational area of the large Michelangelostraße estate built in the 1970s . The name of the park refers to the residential area adjoining it to the east on Einsteinstrasse, which was laid out in 1964 . The park is located between Storkower Strasse and Pieskower Weg and is closed off to the east by the Einsteinstrasse senior citizens' residence. The day care center and residential buildings follow Pieskower Weg to the west, and the Paul Lincke elementary school to the north. This green area was the festival meadow of the allotment gardens to the north. This had been de-dedicated for the development of the large quarter on Michelangelostraße (Mühlenviertel). It became a playground for the residents of the 1960s houses on Einsteinstrasse. As a designed park including the old stock of trees, it was inaugurated on July 2, 1998 under the new name. A communal playground has also been preserved on the large area. The park is part of the green areas in the Mühlenbergviertel , which are in the green corridor to the city center. This green corridor provides a connection for air exchange between the city center and the north-eastern surrounding area with the forest and open spaces there.

Culture in the park

Einstein Pavilion

In the park there is an Einstein pavilion made of granite by Yvonne Kohlert from 1996. The pavilion invites you to sit on the designed stones and at the same time to study the formulas carved on the supports and beams.

Elsewhere in the park are two bronze sculptures by Anna Franziska Schwarzbach titled Einstein from 1998. The sculptures show Albert Einstein at an advanced age, who is talking to young Albert. The artist describes her work in the following poem:

Albert & Einstein on a pedestal?

In the beginning there was a stone,
a road
and a wish
Einstein out of a stone

no:
would mean: Einstein ›tailbone‹ what then?

I. Idea:
Einstein between two stones
(relatively simple-minded idea)

II. Idea:
Einstein with Einstein: but how?
(relatively good idea)

III. Idea:
Albert & Einstein
(good idea from Butzmann) But
how does Albert feel about Einstein?
if he stands next to him
, he stands behind him
