Built in 1913-1914 Elektrárna Štvanice ( dt .: hydroelectric plant Štvanice ) on the Vltava River in Prague on the island Štvanice combines Art Nouveau - architecture with modern technology.
History, location, function
The hydropower plant is located on the western tip of the island and supplies the city of Prague with electricity. The hydropower plant was completed in 1914. The building's architect, Alois Dlabač , was inspired by a French chateau for the style. On the west side of the building is a five-story tower with a height of 22 m and a floor area of 7.5 m × 7.5 m. The dome has a top height of 8 m. The power plant was shut down on December 31, 1972 due to defects. From 1984 to 1987 the hydropower plant was technically renewed and the building carefully renovated.
The hydropower plant is owned by the state energy supply company ČEZ . It is operated and maintained by a sister company, ČEZ as.
Technical specifications
New facility
The hydropower plant has a maximum output of 5.67 MW . This power is converted by three Kaplan turbines (1.89 megawatts per turbine). The flow rate is 56 cubic meters per second. The turbines with a diameter of 3.5 m are located in a shaft three meters below the level and use a gradient of 3.96 meters between the inlet and outlet.
A synchronous generator with 1.88 MW at a voltage of 6.3 kV is connected to each turbine and rotates at 107.1 rev / m. The voltage is increased to 22 kV via a substation . Around 19,000 MWh are fed in every year.
The system works fully automatically. Monitoring is carried out by a control center near Štěchovice .
Old plant
In the old plant there were three vertical Francis turbines made by the company Kolben and Daněk (later Českomoravská-Kolben-Daněk (ČKD) ). These each had an output of 474 kW with a flow rate of around 16 m³ / s. The total output was 1.4 MW. Three-phase machines with 350/500 kW at 3000 V were used as generators. The gears used were those with wooden gears, which were in operation until 1972.
