Electric tram of the Dortmund district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The electric tram of the district Dortmund was a streetcar enterprise of the former, today Dortmund belonging district Dortmund .

In order to open up the district of Dortmund, the district and the Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft ( AEG ) signed a contract on November 27, 1903 to set up a regular-gauge tram network in the area around Dortmund. Some of the planned lines connected to the existing network in Dortmund. The following lines were inaugurated for the electric trams of the Dortmund district:

Opening date
route
December 14, 1904 Fredenbaum - Eving - Brechte - Brambauer
January 12, 1905 Mine Minister Stein - Kemminghausen - Derne - Lünen
November 26, 1906 Körne - Wickede - Massen - Unna

Since these three lines were only connected to each other via the network of other companies, there were also three depots. In the following years two more lines were opened:

Opening date
route
April 16, 1907 Castrop - Schwerin
November 15, 1910 Castrop - Henrichenburg
November 15, 1910 Habinghorst - Ickern
January 1, 1912 Schwerin - Marten - Dorstfeld
January 1, 1912 Marten - Lütgendortmund

These also had no connection to the rest of the district's rail network.

On December 31, 1907, the district terminated the lease agreement with AEG and operated the railways on its own. From January 1, 1908, the trams also officially ran under the name of the Dortmund District Electric Trams . On November 13, 1912, the tracks in Unna were used together with the Unna – Kamen – Werne small railway .

When parts of the district were to be incorporated into the city of Dortmund , the district demanded that its railways should be operated together with the urban railways. The Dortmunder Straßenbahn GmbH was founded on June 30, 1914 , and a joint haulage service was started on July 1. The two companies were not merged until 1928.
