Elmar Oberhauser (born January 2, 1947 in Hohenems ) is an Austrian journalist . From January 1, 2007 to November 11, 2010 he was information director of the ORF .

Life

Oberhauser was a junior champion in shooting and after his training as a primary school teacher worked as a primary and secondary school teacher before moving to the sports department of the ORF regional studio in Vorarlberg in 1971 . From there he switched to the current service, first on radio, then on television.

From 1987 to 1991 Oberhauser was head of the federal state editorial office. He became known to a wide audience as the moderator of “ Zeit im Bild 2” (1989–1994). He was also in charge of the broadcast for this format.

Later he also moderated the political talk shows “Zur Dinge” and “ Im Zentrum ” and numerous TV confrontations before elections to the National Council and the Federal Presidency.

From January 1, 1995, Elmar Oberhauser was head of the sports department on ORF television. On September 21, 2006, at the request of the BZÖ , he was elected information director for television by the ORF Board of Trustees and he took office on January 1, 2007.

On October 22, 2010 Oberhauser was on leave after differences with ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz over the appointment of TV editor-in-chief Fritz Dittlbacher . When Wrabetz submitted a motion to the Board of Trustees to vote out, 18 of the 35 members (the “red-green circle of friends”) approved the removal of Oberhauser on November 11th. Oberhauser was proud of being voted out of office because he resisted party-political influences on ORF and was voted out of office for it.

Elmar Oberhauser was known for his rough interview style. He earned this reputation in the early 1990s as a moderator of round tables and election campaign confrontations. The news magazine “ Profil ” called him “Mister Grobian” for this.
