The Elsterflutbett is an artificial river course of about 3.6 km in Leipzig and the right branch of the White Elster .

It begins at the dividing weir in Großzschocher , which regulates the water distribution between the Weißer Elster and the Elster flood bed. Immediately thereafter, it takes up the Elster flood bed on the right , continues between the Schleußig district (left) and the Leipzig Ratsholz and crosses under the Schleußiger Weg at the Paußnitz bridge , before the Pleisseflood bed flows into the Leipziger Eck on the right . In the last section, the Rennbahnsteg at the Scheibenholz racecourse , the Sachsenbrücke with Anton-Bruckner-Allee and the Klingerbrücke with Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße span the Elster flood bed. In front of the Palmgarten weir, the Elstermühlgraben branches off as a right branch, then it flows into the White Elster, which crosses from left to right. As an extension of the Elster flood bed, the Elster basin connects to the north below the Palmgarten weir .
The state dam administration of Saxony describes the section up to the confluence of the Pleißeflutbetts as the upper Elster flood bed and the following older part up to the White Elster as the lower Elster flood bed .

The Elster flood bed relieves the course of the White Elster in the area of the Schleußig and Plagwitz districts . At the dividing weir in Großzschocher, part of the Elster water is drained laterally into the Elster flood bed.
The distribution structure in Knauthain limits the flow rate of the White Elster. When there is a flood, the excess water flows into the Elster flood bed and ends up in the Elster flood bed. Since the Elstermühlgraben can hardly absorb water from the Elster, most of the Elster water flows over the palm garden weir into the Elster basin.
water sports
The Elster flood bed is often used for training Leipzig water sports enthusiasts, especially for canoeing, kayaking and rowing. There is a slalom training course run by the Leipziger Kanuclubs e. V. as a federal base for canoe slalom, on Schleußiger Weg the boathouse of the SG LVB and at the end of the right bank of the flood bed, the beginning of the Elstermühlgraben, the boathouse of the SC DHfK . On August 15, 2015, the Elster flood bed between Sachsenbrücke and Rennbahnsteg hosted the Rowing League for the first time .
