Emídio Guerreiro

Emídio Guerreiro (born September 6, 1899 in Guimarães ; † June 29, 2005 ibid) was a freedom fighter and anti-fascist from Portugal .

Life

Since the 1920s -Jahren he fought as a resistance fighter against the Salazar - and Caetano - dictatorship and was therefore detained. After Guerreiro escaped from prison, he participated on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War . Between 1940 and 1944 he fought alongside the Resistance in France against National Socialism .

In 1974, after the victory of the Carnation Revolution , he returned to his homeland. He was a co-founder of the Partido Popular Democrático (PPD), which was later converted into the Partido Social Democrata (PSD).

On June 30, 2005, Emídio Guerreiro died of a lung disease at the age of 105.
