Emanuel Punčochář

Emanuel Punčochář (born December 25, 1902 in Brno , † February 5, 1976 there ) was a Czech conductor and composer.

Punčochář attended elementary and secondary school together with the actor Hugo Hass . He played the piano from the age of nine and later appeared as a silent film and café pianist . From 1919 he studied composition with Jaroslav Kvapil and Vilém Petrželka as well as conducting with František Neumann at the Brno Conservatory . From 1923 to 1924 he taught at the school of Václav Kaprál , after which he worked as a conductor in Eger until 1927 .

Further stations of his conducting career were Komotau and Freiwaldau , Troppau (1927-29), Ulm (1929-30), Ausig (1930-33) and Teplitz and Reichenberg . He regularly conducted during the summer months, the spa orchestra of Carlsbad . From 1938 to 1941 he was director of the State Theater in Brno, after which he worked as a conductor in Bremen and Vienna .

After the Second World War in 1945 he took over the management of the State Opera in Brno, and from 1948 to 1965 he was also chief conductor of the National Theater.
