Hundrieser studied from 1865 to 1868 at the Berlin Art Academy . There he was a master student of the sculptor Rudolf Siemering , in whose studio he worked for another eight years after completing his studies. In his own work he soon allowed himself to be strongly influenced by Reinhold Begas and his naturalistic style of neo-baroque and neo- rococo. Before he started working as a freelance sculptor in Berlin from 1873, he made numerous study trips to France, Belgium and Austria, among others. He was admitted to the Prussian Academy of the Arts in 1892 and took over a professorship there in 1895. In 1905 he was appointed director of the Rauch Museum. He mainly created statues and figures for public spaces and buildings. After his death he was buried in Dept. 15-132 in the Parkfriedhof Lichterfelde . He received prize money of 3,000 Swiss francs for his World Post Memorial design .

His son Hans Hundrieser (1874–1929) also worked as a sculptor.
