Emmanuel Laroche (born July 11, 1914 in Clamart , † June 16, 1991 ) was a French linguist. His specialties were the ancient Anatolian languages and Hurrian .

Laroche studied at the École normal supérieure . He specialized in the languages ​​and cultures of ancient Anatolia, especially the Hittites and the Hittite languages . After teaching in Nancy from 1942 to 1945, he taught at the University of Strasbourg from 1946 to 1972 , in parallel since 1954 at the École Pratique des Hautes Études . From 1965 to 1975 he was director of the Institut français d'archéologie d'Istanbul. From 1973 to 1985 he was Professor of Languages ​​and Civilization in Asia Minor at the Collège de France .

Laroche was also active in archaeological research, including between 1971 and 1982 in Meydancıkkale near Gülnar in Cilicia (southern Turkey).
