history
Emnid was founded in Bielefeld in 1945 by Karl-Georg von Stackelberg , making it one of the first companies in this area. In 1960 Emnid was a co-founder of the “ Arbeitskreis Deutscher Marktforschungsinstitute e. V. "(ADM). The company also became interesting for politics. The federal government commissioned the company with regular observation of the political landscape. From 1990 to 1997 the French Sofres group was the main owner of the company. From their merger with Taylor Nelson AGB it belonged to the TNS group, the fourth largest market research group worldwide. In 1995 the company signed a contract with the news channel n-tv and got its own program. This program was discontinued because of the takeover of n-tv by the RTL group , which worked with the opinion research institute Forsa-Institut . In 2003 TNS Emnid set up the “Bonsai Germany” test market in Bremen. From 1991 to 2013 Klaus-Peter Schöppner was managing director of TNS Emnid.
In January 2014 TNS Emnid was with TNS Infratest merged and discharged the company from the commercial register; the brand name continued to be used within the Kantar Group until the end of 2019 , since September 2016 as Kantar Emnid.
