The village of Emsdorf is part of the town of Kirchhain in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in central Hesse . Emsdorf is located on the northeast edge of the district of Kirchhain in a shallow hollow in front of the foothills of the Burgwald . The inhabitants are predominantly Catholic.

history

The first mention of Emsdorf can be found in a deed of transfer of land to the Haina monastery in 1295 AD. However, the place is probably older. Emsdorf was part of the Electoral Mainz Neustadt area at an early stage . This is proven by medieval documents from 1324 in the Amöneburg winery accounts. Especially in the English area, Emsdorf gained importance through the " battle near Emsdorf ". In the Seven Years' War on July 16, 1760, allied troops (British, Hanoverian and Hesse) defeated a French army association consisting largely of Bavarians and hitchhikers .

On July 1, 1974, until then independent municipality Emsdorf was in the context of municipal reform in Hesse powerful state law in the city Kirchhain incorporated .

Historical forms of names

In historical documents the place was mentioned under the names Emesdorf (1295), Emistorph (1324), Emisdorff (1380) and Emßdorf (1437). In the 18th century there is also the spelling Emsdorff .

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Emsdorf was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1821

With an edict of June 29, 1821, administration and justice were separated in Kurhessen. Now judicial offices were responsible for the first instance jurisdiction, the administration was taken over by the districts. The Kirchhain district was responsible for the administration and the Neustadt Justice Office as the court of first instance for Emsdorf. The Supreme Court was the Higher Appeal Court in Kassel . The higher court of Marburg was subordinate to the province of Upper Hesse. It was the second instance for the judicial offices.

After the annexation of Kurhessen by Prussia, the Neustadt Justice Office became the Royal Prussian District Court Neustadt in 1867 . In June 1867, a royal ordinance was issued that reorganized the court system in the areas that belonged to the former Electorate of Hesse. The previous judicial authorities were to be repealed and replaced by local courts in the first, district courts in the second and an appeal court in the third instance. In the course of this, on September 1, 1867, the previous judicial office was renamed Neustadt District Court. The courts of the higher authorities were the Marburg District Court and the Kassel Court of Appeal .

The Neustadt District Court was closed on June 15, 1943. His district went up in the district of the Kirchhain district court . In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Marburg Regional Court , the Frankfurt am Main Higher Regional Court and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.

In addition to the football department, the club also includes the gymnastics and gymnastics department, as well as the carnival club EKC . The footballers play their home games on the sports grounds on Burgholzerstraße. In addition to a tennis court and lawn sports field, there is also the club house, which was built in the 1970s and extensively renovated in recent years.

Trivia

The paving stones built on the through streets in the village to calm traffic and which are controversial because of the associated noise development are a gift from the twin town Doberlug-Kirchhain . These paving stones were torn out a few years ago due to the extreme noise pollution for residents and replaced with a new asphalt surface.
