Georg Enoch Robert Prosper Philipp Franz Karl Theodor Maria Heinrich Johannes Luitpold Hartmann Gundeloh Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg (born July 29, 1946 in Guttenberg ; † June 15, 2018 in Munich ) was a German conductor .

family

Enoch zu Guttenberg came from the Frankish noble family Guttenberg . He was born in the summer of 1946 as the only son and second of five children of the later Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery, Karl Theodor Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg and his wife Rosa Sophie (born Princess von Arenberg , 1922–2012). Enoch zu Guttenberg was married to Christiane Gräfin von und zu Eltz (* 1951) from 1971 to 1977 . The two sons Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and Philipp Franz zu Guttenberg come from this first marriage . Enoch zu Guttenberg was married to the conductor Ljubka Biagioni from 1997 to 2016 . This relationship resulted in two sons born in 2003 and 2005. He was most recently with the one from Munich coming soprano engaged Susanne Bernhard.

Life

Enoch zu Guttenberg studied composition and conducting in Munich and Salzburg . One of his teachers was Carl Feilitzsch . In 1967 he founded the Choral Society Neubeuern . In 1997 he became head of the independent and project-related orchestra Klangverwaltung . Numerous recordings on CD document this collaboration. In 2000, Enoch zu Guttenberg led a seven-day Bach Festival in the Herrenchiemsee royal palace. This resulted in the Herrenchiemsee Festival next year, which has been held annually on the island of Herrenchiemsee under Guttenberg as artistic director . Since May 2003 Guttenberg was the honorary conductor of the Hof Symphony Orchestra .

Guttenberg was heavily involved in environmental protection. In 1975 he was a co-founder of the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) . In May 2012 he resigned because he rejected the wind turbines, which he believed to be destructive to the landscape, in contrast to the BUND and no longer wanted to support the suspicion that the BUND could be bought. Enoch zu Guttenberg has maintained his criticism of the BUND. In a book published in 2016, he described the chairman Hubert Weiger as the "advertising officer of the wind industry". Guttenberg accused Weiger of taking too little action against the construction of wind farms and thereby contributing to the destruction of nature and the landscape. Weiger also downplayed the death of birds from wind turbines. The BUND sued Guttenberg for his critical statements, but withdrew the complaint in April 2016, according to Guttenberg out of "fear of the power of truth".

Enoch zu Guttenberg was a member of the board of trustees of the ÖDP- related Foundation for Ecology and Democracy . He was initially a member of the CSU , but resigned in 1992 after a conflict with the then Bavarian Prime Minister Max Streibl because he refused to take part in a demonstration against anti-Semitism . Guttenberg later rejoined the party at the insistence of his son Karl-Theodor .

Enoch zu Guttenberg died in June 2018 at the age of 71.

honors and awards

Guttenberg has received several awards for his work, including the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class , the Bavarian Poetentaler (1994), the Bavarian State Medal for Services to the Environment (2009) and the Bavarian Order of Merit . He returned the German Culture Prize ECHO Klassik to the rappers Kollegah and Farid Bang in April 2018 in response to the award ceremony . In this regard, he spoke of "a filthy sign for a terrible time that has dawned".

In 2015 Guttenberg became Honorary President of the newly founded Association for Landscape Management and Species Protection in Bavaria (VLAB).

He was an honorary citizen of the communities Guttenberg and Neubänen .

Zu Guttenberg was Commander of the Royal Bavarian House Knights Order of Saint George , the house order of the House of Wittelsbach .

financial situation

In 1952, Enoch zu Guttenberg received the Reichsrat von Buhl winery in Deidesheim in the Palatinate from his father . In 1989 the property was leased to Japanese investors and has belonged to the Niederberger group of companies since 2005 .

In October 2010, Manager Magazin estimated the fortune of Enoch zu Guttenberg in the special edition The 500 Richest Germans at 400 million euros . The origin of the fortune, along with large estates, was the Rhön Clinic in Bad Neustadt an der Saale . In March 2002 the family of the clinic founder sold company shares for 260 million euros to the Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank .

Guttenberg transferred his fortune and his property, including the family castle including inventory and forest operations in the district of Kulmbach , to a private Austrian foundation based in Radmer . Philipp Franz zu Guttenberg, the younger son, took over the castle and the family business after the inheritance was divided. The Freiherrlich von und zu Guttenberg'sche Family Foundation was registered on October 31, 2008 in the Austrian spa town of Semmering .
