history

Batthyány Castle in Enying (2006)

For the first time Enying was mentioned in 1138 in the agricultural list of the diocese of Dömös , Balatonbozsok was already shown in 1082 as property of the Church of St. Michael in Veszprém . The rule over the places changed more frequently in the course of history. The town had a good economic development from 1720 in the 18th and 19th centuries under the rule of the noble von Batthyány family, which is still reflected in the townscape today with the castle, castle park, agricultural facilities and the Johann Nepomuk Church.

Enying became the district capital in 1867 and remained so until 1961. The town's train station was built on the railway line from Veszprém to Dombóvár in 1880, and before the end of the 19th century, the post office, telegraph office and savings bank were added. In 1950 the municipality was spun off from Veszprém County and attached to Fejér County.

Johannes Nepomuk Church in Enying (2007)

The Catholic church consecrated to St. John Nepomuk was built between 1838 and 1841. The church, which is now a listed building, was mainly financed by Duke Fülöp Batthyány, two of the three existing bells are from the construction period. It was planned by the Viennese builder Vilmos Pichl and built by the builder Ferenc Vojtha from Enying.

In addition, there is the Trinity Church in the Balatonbozsok district, the current building of which originated in the 17th century, but which dates back to an older church from the 15th century.

A Calvinist church has existed in the village since 1546, the current building was built between 1789 and 1792 in place of a previously existing castle in a baroque design. The Calvinist church has good acoustics, which are often used in summer to perform evening organ concerts.

In 1828 a school building with two classes was erected, in whose successor building erected in the interwar period is now the music school. There has also been a Protestant church since 1938.

Duke Fülöp Batthyány also had the castle of his ancestors expanded according to plans by Georg Möser. It is also a listed building, its inner courtyard and the surrounding English park is used as a stage for open-air events in summer. In the park you can also find the monument to the fallen of the First World War, erected in 1922 and designed by Sándor Somogyi.
