Eric Bernotas came to skeleton relatively late at the age of 30. He finished his first World Cup race in 2004 in Winterberg in 11th place. In his second race in Altenberg he was eighth for the first time in the top ten. His first victory in a World Cup race was in Lake Placid in 2005 , the second followed in the following season in the same calendar year in the same place. He won his third race in Nagano in early 2007 . The 2004/05 season he finished sixth in the overall World Cup, the 2005/06 season third.
Bernotas was the American champion three times. He finished eighth at the 2005 World Championships in Calgary , and two years later in St. Moritz he won the silver medal in both the individual and team. At the 2009 World Cup he was able to win a medal again with the team, this time bronze. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin he came in sixth place, at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver he came in 14th. For the following season 2010/11 Bernotas was able to qualify for the World Cup without problems, but he lost his place in the team after four races due to mediocre performance. After the races in North America, he stayed there, did not travel to Europe and became part of the association's technology program. After the season he ended his career after 50 World Cup races. Since March he has been training the skeleton newbies in the USA.
