Eric Robert Greitens (born April 10, 1974 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American author , soldier and politician of the Republican Party . As of January 9, 2017, he was governor of the state of Missouri. There are two criminal charges against him. He faced impeachment proceedings and resigned on June 1, 2018.

Life

Eric Greitens studied philosophy and political science at Duke University and the University of Oxford . After his time in Oxford, he joined the Navy Seals in 2001 , where he rose to Lieutenant Commander . As an author, he wrote several works on military topics.

Greitens has been married since 2011 and has two children.

On November 8, 2016, Greitens won the gubernatorial election in Missouri against the Democrat Chris Koster . He succeeded Jay Nixon, who was no longer a candidate, on January 9, 2017 .

Greitens against two charges by Kim Gardner, are prosecutor of the judicial district of St. Louis , before. On the one hand, he is said to have threatened a woman with whom he had an affair before his election, the publication of a partially clothed photo and insulted her in order to prevent the affair from becoming public. In February 2018 he was therefore charged and briefly arrested. On the other hand, Greitens is said to have illegally received a list of possible donor names from a veterans charity that he co-founded in 2007. Greitens long rejected requests for resignation, including when a committee of the Missouris State Legislature was preparing an impeachment procedure . After Greitens was summoned to testify before the committee as part of the impeachment proceedings, Greitens resigned from his governorship on May 29, 2018, effective June 1. Most recently, his support within the Republican parliamentarians had also dwindled considerably. He was succeeded by Vice Governor Mike Parson in office, who is expected to end the current term of office until January 2021.
