Eric Khaled Saade (born October 29, 1990 in Kattarp, Helsingborg ) is a Swedish singer and television presenter . In 2011 he represented his home country at the Eurovision Song Contest with the English-language song Popular . He has had a dance school since the end of August 2013.

Life

Eric Saade was born in 1990 in Kattarp outside Helsingborg as the son of a Swede and a Lebanese of Palestinian origin. His parents divorced when he was four years old. He is the second oldest of eight siblings and half-siblings. He started writing songs when he was thirteen. He received his first attention as the winner of the Swedish music show Joker . Football was his greatest passion before signing his first music deal at the age of fifteen.

Private life

Saade was in a relationship with the Swedish singer Molly Sandén . They had been living together since early 2011 until their relationship officially ended on January 9, 2012.

Career

Music career

2009–2010: beginning and first successes

Before his solo career, he was a member of the Swedish boy band What's Up !, with whom he released an album and two singles, before leaving to concentrate on his solo career. In 2009, Eric Saade's first single, Sleepless, was released and reached 44th place in the Swedish singles charts.

In 2010 Saade tried for the first time at the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, and came third with the title Manboy . The song, written by Frederik Kempe, reached the top of the Swedish charts and was awarded platinum. After the competition he was named one of five members of the Swedish jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 and was allowed to announce the results of the Swedish audience and judges in the final.

The artist's debut album was released in May. Masquerade was able to climb to second place in the Swedish album charts and was awarded a gold record. In the summer he toured Sweden with his Masquerade Tour . Saade gave 23 concerts.

2011: Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

In the following year he appeared again at the popular Melodifestivalen, this time with the song Popular, also written by Frederik Kempe . After winning the first round, he won the final of the competition with a 54 point lead over runner-up Danny Saucedo and thus bought the ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 , which took place in Düsseldorf after the victory of German singer Lena in 2010 . In the run-up to the victory, he was one of the favorites and was able to win the second semifinals with 155 points and in the final of the event ended up in third place behind the Azerbaijani duo Ell and Nikki and the Italian Raphael Gualazzi with 185 points. It was the best Swedish placement in the competition since Charlotte Nilsson's victory in 1999 .

Saade then achieved chart placements with Popular in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and Great Britain .

2011–2012: Tour and 3rd album Saade Vol. 2

In June 2011 Saade released the song Hearts in the Air in Sweden , in which the rapper J-Son is also involved. The title was able to climb to second place in the Swedish charts. In the summer he toured Sweden on his Made of Pop tour . This ended in August 2011 in Stockholm after 22 concerts.

In November 2011, the singer's third album was released. The first single from the album Hotter than Fire is a collaboration with Dev and was released on November 2, 2011 in Sweden.

In April 2012 he released the song Imagine with Tone Damli , which entered the Norwegian charts at number nine. He was also in the Swedish charts. There the single reached 49th place for a week. In addition, the singles Marching (In the Name of Love) and Miss Unknown appeared , these could not climb a place in the Swedish single charts. His first best-of album Deluxe , which included Marching and Imagine , was released in Norway in December 2012 .

In spring 2012 he toured Sweden on his third tour, the Pop Explosion Tour . After 15 concerts, he released his first concert DVD or live album from the last Pop Explosion concert in Stockholm in November 2012.

2013–2014: fourth studio album Forgive Me

In May 2013, the single Winning Ground, the official song of the 2013 UEFA Women's European Championship, was released . With this title he also appeared at the finals in the Friends Arena in Solna. A few days earlier, Saade's first official single Coming Home was released from his fourth studio album Forgive Me , which was released on August 28, 2013. After the tracklist of Forgive Me came out , Miss Unknown was the first release as this song made it onto the album. To promote the Coming Home EP , Saade toured Sweden and Norway for the fourth time in the summer of 2013. Despite its coming home tour, the single missed the single charts. In August 2013, Saade and A-Lee released the single Flashy from Forgive Me . She could reach the top position of the album charts, but it could not build on the previous albums.

In May 2014, Saade's first single was released in Swedish. Du Ar Aldrig Ensam did not reach the charts. In July 2014 the single Take a Ride was released .

Since 2015: Saade - EP

In 2015 Eric Saade took part in the Melodifestivalen again. With the song Sting he won the semi-finals and moved into the final of the preliminary decision. In the final, Saade came in fifth. With the single Sting Saade reached the Swedish single charts for the first time since 2012. The single reached number five. In May 2015 the single Girl From Sweden was released , which he presented on his tour. A music video has also been released. However, the song failed on the Swedish single charts.

In 2016 Saade released the single Colors , which marked a change in style. The single was well received and was the first single on his second EP, which was released in summer 2016 and was named Saade . The EP contains five songs, the second release, Wide Awake , was also well received.

Another single was released in 2017, Another Week , which did not make it into the music charts.

Eric Saade as moderator

Saade hosted My Camp Rock on the Swedish Disney Channel in 2009 and hosted the talent show Julias Stjärnskott . Eric Saade interviewed Hollywood actor Zac Efron at the Swedish Disney Channel when he was 16 .

In 2013 Saade supported the main presenter Petra Mede at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 as a presenter from the Green Room .

In 2019, Saade and Sarah Dawn Finer , Marika Carlsson and Kodjo Akolor led the Melodifestivalen 2019 , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv , Israel .

Musical development

While the debut album Masquerade had more pop and rock elements , the second album Saade Vol. 1 was dominated by dance songs. From Saade Vol. 2 Saade wrote his own songs for the first time and the album contained more pop songs. In 2012 Saade fundamentally changed his style. The new songs were a mix of pop and hip-hop songs.

Saade said in an interview that the fourth studio album Forgive Me has a different style than its predecessors. According to Eric Saade, he is more personal and tells of his own experiences that he had after breaking up with Molly Sandén . Although the album's releases, such as "Coming Home", did not reach the Swedish charts, the song and the EP met with widespread approval in many European countries.
