Erich Neu

Erich Neu (born November 26, 1936 in Wetzlar ; † December 31, 1999 in Bochum ) was a German ancient orientalist.

Life

He studied at the University of Marburg . After completing his doctorate with the thesis The Hittite Mediopassive and its Indo-European Basics on July 6, 1966 in Marburg and his habilitation in 1972 in Göttingen , he received the Venia legendi for Historical-Comparative Linguistics and for Hittiteology . In 1976 he was appointed to the Ruhr University Bochum , where he was dean from 1978 to 1979 and vice dean from 1979 to 1980 . In 1987 a separate chair for Hittitology was created for him (ad personam), which he held until his death. He died of pancreatic cancer.
