Erich Thummer

Erich Thummer (born December 16, 1930 in Hart im Zillertal ) is an Austrian classical philologist .

Life

Erich Thummer attended the Paulinum Episcopal Gymnasium in Schwaz in Tyrol. From 1950 he studied classical philology at the University of Innsbruck (with Karl Jax and Robert Muth ). On November 17, 1954, he passed the teaching degree in the subjects of Greek and Latin, on 25 May 1957 he was with the dissertation The religiosity Pindar doctorate . In the summer semester of 1957 he deepened his studies at the University of Vienna . After he had worked as a lecturer at the seminar for classical philology in 1957/1958 , he was appointed assistant on September 1, 1958. From 1963 to 1964 he conducted research at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC

Thummer completed his habilitation in Innsbruck in 1968 with an annotated bilingual edition of the Isthmic Oden Pindar . On July 17, 1968 he was given a lectureship in classical philology. On February 14, 1973 he was appointed associate professor for classical philology. He has been retired since 1996.
