Ernest Krähmer

Ernest Krähmer (born March 30, 1795 in Dresden , † January 16, 1837 in Vienna ) was an oboist , csakan virtuoso and composer .

life and work

Ernest Krähmer learned the flute , oboe, clarinet and bassoon from 1806 to 1810 during his stay at the military boys' education institute in Annaburg . He then worked as a musician in Dresden and devoted himself more intensively to playing the csakan. In 1822 he married the clarinetist and violinist Caroline Schleicher (1794–1873) in Vienna , after taking up a position as oboist at the kk Theater am Kärntnertor in Vienna in February of the same year .

The couple performed regularly together in Vienna, he on oboe and csakan, she on violin and clarinet. Caroline gave birth to ten children, three of whom reached adulthood and one son also became a musician (cellist, composer, singing teacher). In 1822 Krähmer became a member of the court orchestra and received the title “K. k. Court and Chamber Musicians ”.

He published numerous works for Csakan, including a Csakan school, etudes and exercise pieces, divertimenti, serenades, concerts, Bravour-Variations, Länders and other folk music adaptations. Anton Diabelli dedicated a Notturno for two csakans and guitar to him.

Krähmer died of pneumonia at the age of 41. With the death of the Csakan virtuoso, the Csakan was also increasingly forgotten.
