Ernst Hagen (born September 24, 1952 in Lustenau ) is an Austrian businessman and politician ( FPÖ ). Hagen was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1994 to 2019 and vice-president of the state parliament from 2009 to 2019. He lives in Lustenau, is married and has three children.

Political career

Hagen was a local councilor in Lustenau from 1993 to 2010 and has represented the FPÖ in the Vorarlberg state parliament since October 4, 1994. From March 5, 2003 to October 4, 2004, he was club chairman of the Freedom State Parliament Club and has been deputy chairman of the club since October 4, 2004. After the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2009 , in which the FPÖ recorded a strong increase in votes, Hagen was elected vice-president by the members of the 29th Vorarlberg state parliament .

In the municipal council and mayoral elections in 2010 , Hagen ran as the top candidate for the FPÖ in Lustenau. Previously, the long-time FPÖ mayor Hans-Dieter Grabher had decided not to run again. In the election, however, Kurt Fischer from the ÖVP was able to prevail and for the first time in 50 years he regained the office of mayor in Austria's largest market town for the ÖVP. As a consequence, Ernst Hagen announced his retirement from the role of Lustenau FPÖ chairman, which he finally carried out in February 2012.

After the state elections in 2014 , Hagen was once again sworn in as a member of the 30th Vorarlberg state parliament and was re-elected as vice-president of the state parliament by the new members. Currently, Ernst Hagen with his 20-year tenure as Member of Parliament together with Josef Türtscher of the People's Party, also entered the parliament on 4 October 1994, the longest-serving Member of the State Parliament of Vorarlberg.

At the end of August 2016, Ernst Hagen also took over the management of FPÖ Vorarlberg on an interim basis under its new state party chairman Reinhard Eugen Bösch until September 2017. In the 2019 state elections , Hagen announced in advance that he would no longer run and instead would run for the end of the legislative period in October 2019 to leave the state parliament.
