Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld

Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld (* 1953 in Johannesburg ) is a South African botanist and author of specialist books. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ van Jaarsv. ".

Live and act

Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld studied at the University of Pretoria and graduated in 1975 with a degree in horticulture. In 1990 he completed his Master of Science degree in Plant Systematics at the University of Natal .

Since 1974 he has worked in the National Botanical Garden , until 1976 in Lowveld and then in Kirstenbosch . As a specialist in succulent plants, he traveled to several provinces in South Africa and carried out extensive expeditions. In Kirstenbosch he is responsible for the Botanical Society Conservatory, founded in 1996, for which he received an NBI Chairman Award.

As an author and co-author, he has described over 80 new plant species and is a member of the IOS .
