Ernst Ludwig (politician)

Ernst Ludwig (* 25. February 1927 in Ulm , † 24. May 2017 ) was a German lawyer and politician of the CDU .

education and profession

Ludwig attended school in Ulm and graduated from high school in 1944. He then became a soldier and was briefly taken prisoner, but was able to begin a commercial apprenticeship in 1945, which he completed in 1947. Then he studied law at the University of Munich . He passed his state exams in 1953 and 1956.

From 1956 Ludwig worked for the city of Ulm and in 1966 he took over the management of the regional planning association Donau-Iller-Blau, a forerunner of the Donau-Iller region founded in 1973 , of which he became the first association director.

Political activity

Ludwig was also politically active since the 1960s. In 1967 he became district chairman of the CDU in Alb-Donau-Ulm. In 1972 he moved to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , which he was a member of until 1984. At that time he carried out various tasks within the CDU parliamentary group.

In February 1978, Prime Minister Hans Filbinger brought Ludwig into his cabinet and gave him the role of State Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Planning, Economics and Transport under Minister Rudolf Eberle . Ludwig also held this office in the first two cabinets of Prime Minister Lothar Späth . In December 1983, Ludwig was elected Lord Mayor of Ulm. He therefore resigned from his position as State Secretary in March 1984. He also resigned from the state parliament at the end of 1984. Ludwig then directed the fortunes of the city of Ulm for eight years. At that time, the unemployment rate in the city of Ulm could be greatly reduced and the city recorded a large increase in population. At the end of 1991 Ludwig renounced a second term as Lord Mayor for reasons of age. In December 1991 the population of the city elected the SPD candidate Ivo Gönner as his successor .

Family and private

Ludwig was married to Angela born in 1963. Vogelsang and had a son (* 1966) and a daughter (* 1968).

Appreciations

Ludwig received, among other things, the honorary senator title of the University of Ulm , 1983 the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1990 the Merit Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg and 1992 the honorary citizen of Ulm .
