Ernst Ludwig Herrfurth
Ernst Ludwig Herrfurth (born March 6, 1830 in Oberthau , † February 14, 1900 in Berlin ) was a Prussian statesman.
Life
He was the youngest son of the manor owner of the same name Ernst Ludwig Herrfurth on Oberthau and Krumpa and Henriette nee. Stephan. Herrfurth studied law and camera science in Jena and Berlin , during which time he became a member of the Germania Jena fraternity in 1848 . From 1857 he was employed by the government in Arnsberg . From 1867 he was promoted to the government council and in 1873 appointed to the Ministry of the Interior in Berlin . There he worked primarily in the areas of insurance, community finance and statistics. From 1882 he was Undersecretary of State . After Emperor Friedrich III. In 1888, when the conservative Robert Viktor von Puttkamer was replaced as Minister of the Interior in Prussia, Herrfurth was his successor. The appointment led to considerable disputes among the political greats of his time. He held this office until 1892.
In contrast to the Prussian Prime Minister Bismarck , Herrfurth attempted to improve the previously inadequate municipal law with the draft of a rural community order for the six eastern provinces of Prussia. Since he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives from 1888 , he finally succeeded on April 24, 1891 in having his community constitution confirmed by parliament. Until his resignation in 1892, Herrfurth campaigned for some Berlin suburbs to be incorporated into the capital. Furthermore, together with Emma Ihr, on May 10, 1890 , he enforced that meetings convened by women for women were no longer prohibited.
He lived at Unter den Linden 73 in 1892 .
Ernst Ludwig Herrfurth died just three weeks before his 70th birthday in Berlin in mid-February 1900. His grave is in the old churchyard of the Twelve Apostles congregation in Berlin-Schöneberg . The sandstone wall tomb shows a central aedicule with a triangular gable, pilasters and black inscription plaque. The grave field is bordered by a grid.
