Ernst Mühlrad (born April 4, 1904 in Vienna , † around September 10, 1942 in Auschwitz ) was an Austrian cameraman .

Live and act

Mühlrad had already worked as a cameraman in silent films, at the age of 20 he was solely responsible for the five-act act What is love ...? . From the end of 1932 the Viennese worked regularly as chief cameraman, including for the French production L'enfant du Danube, which was made in Austria . Even before 1938, as a Jew, he only worked on films that could no longer be rented in Germany (including the Anzengruber film The Pastor of Kirchfeld ), Ernst Mühlrad had to flee immediately after the annexation of Austria .

Over the next two years he found employment in Belgium , where he exclusively photographed Jan Vanderheyden's productions , and in Italy , where he was behind the camera for two works by the Austrian directorial emigrant Max Neufeld . After the Wehrmacht marched into Brussels, Mühlrad fell into German hands and was soon taken to the Drancy assembly camp. On September 7, 1942, he was deported to Auschwitz , where he was presumably murdered immediately after his arrival. In 1949, the Vienna Regional Court for Civil Law Matters declared him dead.
