Ernst Schellenberg (born February 20, 1907 in Berlin , † June 6, 1984 in West Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

biography

education and profession

Schellenberg completed an apprenticeship in social security and welfare. Until 1933 he worked in the field of social security and social welfare. He came to the private German School of Politics without a school leaving examination . He became an assistant and lecturer at the University Institute for Insurance Sciences and in 1933 he received his doctorate . From 1933 he was employed by a private insurance company. In 1938 he became head of the calculation department at the Reich Association of Private Insurance in Berlin. From 1942 he worked as a seminar leader at the Berlin University Institute for Insurance Science.

From 1946 to 1948 he was Professor of Insurance and Director at the Institute for Social Affairs and Insurance at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1947 he became an associate professor as director of the Institute for Social Policy and Insurance at Humboldt University.

After the Second World War he was the deputy head of the social affairs department in the city ​​council of Greater Berlin , then director of the Berlin insurance company , the health insurance company and, until 1958, the general local health insurance fund in Berlin .

politics

From 1929 to 1933 Schellenberg was a member of the KPD . In 1948 he joined the SPD.

Schellenberg belonged to the German Bundestag from the increase in the number of Berlin deputies on February 1, 1952 to 1976. From 1957 to 1972 he was chairman of the social policy working group of the SPD parliamentary group and until 1976 also chairman of the Bundestag committee for social policy. From December 13, 1966 to June 11, 1975 he was deputy group chairman.

In the 1965 Bundestag election campaign , Schellenberg was part of the government team of the SPD chancellor candidate Willy Brandt , which he presented at the SPD party congress in Karlsruhe in November 1964 , and was designated as Minister of Social Affairs in the event of an election victory . When the grand coalition was formed in 1966, however, this office went to Hans Katzer , and in 1969 to Walter Arendt in the social-liberal coalition .
