Ernst Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf (born February 4, 1719 at Gröben Castle near Ludwigsfelde , Teltow district , Brandenburg ; † December 14, 1769 in Breslau , Lower Silesia ) was a Prussian statesman, budget minister of Silesia and president of both Silesian chambers.

He was the son of the landowner Johann Christian von Schlabrendorf († 1720), landlord on Groben, Groß- and Klein-Beuthen and Waßmannsdorf in the district of Teltow, and Anna Augusta Elisabeth von Pfuel († December 12, 1744). Major General Gustav Albrecht von Schlabrendorf was his brother.

Life

Schlabrendorf was first taught by private tutors, in 1728 he came to a relative, the district administrator of the Teltow district, Hans Jürgen von Otterstaedt . From 1731 he attended the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin. He then studied political science and camera science at the University of Halle for three years .

In July 1740 he got the office of a war council at the East Prussian War and Domain Chamber in Gumbinnen . In 1749 he made an inspection tour of Western Pomerania and wrote a report that drew the king's attention to him. He then transferred the administration of the Stettin Marienstift to him. In 1754 he was even appointed President of the Magdeburg Chamber.

Schlabrendorf was appointed by Frederick the Great as Vice President of the Pomeranian War and Domain Chamber in Stettin , then as the Real Secret Council , Minister of State and War and finally as the first conducting minister of Silesia since 1755. Frederick II expressly praised his exemplary administration and the balancing of interests after the military conquest of Silesia. On March 20, 1763, he was honored with a royal gift of 50,000 thalers. On December 5, 1767 he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle .

With the gift of money, he was able to buy the Kolzig (Grünberg district) together with Grunwald, Jaschäne, Lippke and Vorwerk Karsch from Johann Rüdiger von Gersdorf in 1766 .

Friedrich Wilhelm III. , who commissioned the representative equestrian statue of Frederick the Great , had him depicted together with five other contemporaries of Frederick the Great on the west side of the monument base.

Ernst Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf belonged to the noble family von Schlabrendorf from Brandenburg . He married Charlotte von Blumenthal on February 14, 1741 in Gumbinnen (born September 17, 1726 in Stettin , † January 4, 1743 in Gumbinnen). After the early death of his first wife, he married Anna Carolina von Otterstaedt from the Dahlwitz family. The couple had five sons, including the third writer Gustav von Schlabrendorf (1750-1824). The eldest son from his first marriage, Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig , was raised to the rank of count by King Friedrich II of Prussia on November 17, 1772. The daughter Konstantia Auguste Sophie (* December 14, 1742 - November 19, 1813) married Count Hans Ernst von Kalckreuth (* November 14, 1728 - March 31, 1792). The brothers from their second marriage Leopold August Wilhelm , Christian Georg Gustav and Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Carl were also elevated to the rank of count by King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia on October 15, 1786.
