The Erpe is a 32 km long right tributary of the Spree in the federal state of Brandenburg and in Berlin . Your source stream in the north of Werneuchen is also called the Stienitz flow . From Werneuchen to Altlandsberg it is also known as the Langes Elsenfließ , from here to the city limits of Berlin also as the Neuenhagener Mühlenfließ . Like the entire landscape in Brandenburg and Berlin, the course of the river was also shaped by the last Ice Age .

River course

The Erpe, here also Neuenhagener Mühlenfließ , in Hoppegarten

The Stienitzfließ stream comes from a wetland in the northeast of Werneuchen. The Hohe Graben flows from the west near the center of the small town . From here the name Langes Elsenfließ is entered in older maps .

At the Hof Official Freedom in the west of Altlandsberg, an inlet flows from the left that unites the Altlandsberger Mühlenfließ and the Wederfließ , which arise close to each other in the Altlandsberg district of Wegendorf . From this point on, the Erpe is also called Neuenhagener Mühlenfließ . In Altlandsberg it flows west past the old town center and east past the Seebergsiedung, in Neuenhagen near Berlin between the actual Neuenhagen and the district Bollendorf. In Hoppegarten south ends of the racecourse from the right Zochegraben and south of B 1 of Werner ditch. Further south drained from the east of Klärwerksableiter of the sewage treatment plant Münchehofe into the river.

To the east of the Waldesruh settlement, the water reaches the area of Berlin-Friedrichshagen and Köpenick .

In maps from the first half of the 20th century, the valley in Friedrichshagen is referred to as Erpetal , but the water itself is referred to as the Mühlenfließ (no name added), and in the second half of the century as the Neuenhagener Mühlenfließ . In the Hirschgarten location in Friedrichshagen, the Erpe divides into the Neue Erpe and Alte Erpe just before it flows into it . The Neue Erpe flows into the Spree next to the Salvador-Allende Bridge , the Alte Erpe a little further west into an oxbow lake of the Spree, the northern bypass of the Baumgarteninsel.

“The open meadow landscape of the Erpe Valley is one of the few remaining river valleys in Berlin. Discharges from the Münchehofe sewage treatment plant, however, pollute the water and cause the Erpe to foam again and again. ”In connection with the European Water Framework Directive , which calls for an ecologically clean state of water by 2015, the Berlin and Brandenburg water administrations want to take appropriate measures (status: 2011) .

Erpetal

Erpe at the Kurpark Berlin-Friedrichshagen

Between Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten and Berlin-Friedrichshagen, the water flows through the meadow landscape of the Erpe Valley. In 1957 it was declared a protected landscape area. The part of the Neuenhagener Mühlenfließ nature reserve in the Neuenhagen and Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten districts has been a nature reserve since 2003 .

The European long-distance hiking trail E11 runs through the Erpe Valley.
