Erwin Rupp (born June 11, 1954 in Rohrbach am Gießhübel ; died October 15, 2018 ) was a German soccer player .

Life

At the age of six, Rupp began playing football in his home town of Rohrbach in the youth team of FC Badenia. After going through the various age groups, he was finally used in the men's team of his club. From the 1973/74 season Rupp played at VfB Eppingen , which had recently been promoted to the 1st Amateur League North Baden . In October 1974 he was part of the team that caused a sensation nationally because they defeated Hamburger SV 2-1 in the second main round of the DFB Cup . 1979 Rupp rose with the Eppingern in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In the following season , the team was runner-up behind the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart and therefore rose to the 2nd Bundesliga . VfB Eppingen was only able to hold out there for one season , during which time Rupp made 37 second division appearances and scored eight goals.

After relegation, Rupp left VfB and joined SV Sandhausen . Rupp played with the Palatinate for nine seasons in the league and was able to celebrate the championship in 1985 and 1987 . In the promotion games that had become necessary due to a restructuring , the SVS was unable to prevail on both occasions, so Rupp was not able to return to the 2nd division. In the summer of 1990 he was adopted as part of a friendly against Borussia Dortmund in Sandhausen; at this time he had participated in 482 games, including 264 in the league, and scored 83 goals. He then moved to TSG Hoffenheim for four seasons and let his football career come to an end there. There are promotions from the district class A to the state league.

Rupp was nominated 37 times in the amateur team of the Badischer Fußballverband . After leaving there, he was made honorary captain. Rupp was a member of FC Badenia Rohrbach until his death, where he was awarded honorary membership in March 2017 .

Erwin Rupp died on October 15, 2018 after a serious illness. He was married and had two children.
