The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Armagh ( Latin Archidioecesis Armachana , Irish Ard-Deoise Ard Mhacha , English Archdiocese of Armagh ) is one in Northern Ireland and Ireland situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Armagh (Northern Ireland).

history

The Diocese of Armagh was established in 445 by Pope Leo the Great . 1152 was the diocese of Armagh by Pope Eugene III. raised to the archbishopric.

The Archbishop of Armagh is also a Roman Catholic Primate of all Ireland . From 1893 to 2007, all Archbishops of Armagh were created cardinals , making Armagh a traditional bishopric with cardinal dignity.

The Archdiocese of Armagh is in both Northern Ireland (NI) and the Republic of Ireland (RI); it includes Counties Armagh (NI) and Louth (RI) and parts of Counties Londonderry and Tyrone (NI) and County Meath (RI).
